Hi,
When I shut down Windows (XP), the myPhoneDesktop app does not autmatically close. Instead, windows prompts me to force the app to close. Does anyone else see this, and is there a way to fix it?
Comments
I'm also experiencing this on Windows XP - can anyone from myPhoneDesktop Support chime in here with the answer please.
Let me know what happens if you try to just quit myphonedesktop application? will it hang?
Also,
Reboot you computer and try not to open any applications (and close any running apps as well). Start myPhoneDesktop. Try to shut down your PC and see if myPhoneDesktop process will hang.
Also, Check if there is a error.log in myPhoneDesktop located in <myPhoneDesktop_Install_Folder>/bin/ and if you see error.log - send it to me
Let me know if any questions.
Looking forward to your reply.
Thank you
Alex
I think something is blocking myPhoneDesktop, but what - no clue as of yet… we are still investigating. Unfortunately this is happen to 3 users so far (out of 100+ thousands) and this makes it very difficutl to replicate, but we are working to find out what can cause this. As remporary workaround this is what you can do (see attached screenshots):
1. Close/Quit myPhoneDesktop
2. navigate to where myPhoneDesktop is located. If default installation then:
"C:\Program Files\myPhoneDesktop\bin\" (no quotes)
3. Right-click on file called myPhoneDesktop.jar and Choose Send to | Desktop (create shortcut)
4. You are done, now you can double-click on created shortcut vs run via exe
5. Optionally you can rename and change shortcut icon by right-clicking on the shortcut and choosing Properties form the pop-up menu. (see attached screenshots)

I'm not getting any error.log files. I just rebooted my PC, didn't open anything except myPhoneDesktop and left it open. Then did a shutdown and myPhoneDesktop stayed open and didn't quit and I had to force quit it again.
@Andrew - we just released new version v1.9.1 http://support.myphonedesktop.com/entries/21003342-myphonedesktop-1... not sure if this will resolve your issue (we are still trying to figure out what could cause this - issue affecting only couple of users out of 100+ thousands). Please try to install new version to see if issue is resolved. Also see my above reply with the workaround… Good luck and let me know...

Sorry Alex the problem is still there with version 1.9.1
I installed the 1.9.1 version also, it didn't solve the problem.
It also has other problems. On V1.9.0 I implemented the workaround using the .jar version of the app, which seemed to solve the problem with no side-effects. However in V1.9.1 this file no longer exists. When I try to run the standard app I get a list of Java exceptions and it doesn't start. Error log attached.
This has now been fixed by running the installer again.
When I first ran the installer it did not automatically shut down MyPhoneDesktop, so it did not install properly.
Great. Thank you Simon. This is good info and we will investigate it further… Thank you for you patience and I am glad your issue is resolved.
